VerseNews reports that Wike made this revelation during a media interaction on Tuesday, April 2, where he addressed various matters, including his current rapport with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Wike Lambasts PDP Leaders as ‘Political Vampires’ for Backing Fubara

In a bold move, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has taken a strong stance against key figures within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state for their support of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and President Bola Tinubu.

VerseNews reports that last week, notable Rivers PDP leaders including former National Chairman Uche Secondus, former Minister of Transportation Abiye Sekibo, former Senator Lee Mbae, Celestine Omehia, and former federal lawmaker Austin Opara publicly declared their backing for Governor Fubara and President Tinubu, calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene and caution Wike against hindering Fubara’s efforts.

Speaking to selected journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Wike did not mince words as he labeled these PDP leaders as “political vampires” and “expired politicians” unworthy of the elder statesman title.

He emphasized that Secondus, in particular, was no longer a member of the PDP following his suspension, which was upheld by the court.

Rejecting the notion of referring to Sekibo, Secondus, Omehia, and Okpara as elder statesmen, Wike emphasized the importance of integrity in earning such a title, accusing them of being inconsistent and self-serving.

Wike expressed his disappointment with their sudden support for Fubara, highlighting their previous reluctance to endorse him before the 2023 elections. He questioned their integrity, pointing out their past criticisms of Fubara and their sudden change of heart after the polls.

The governor criticized their actions, referencing past attempts to undermine Fubara’s standing within the party and questioning their motives for supporting him now.

He concluded by questioning their loyalty to the party and their commitment to serving the people, particularly in light of their history of political maneuvering and self-interest.

Wike’s bold condemnation underscores the internal divisions within the PDP in Rivers State and highlights the complexities of political allegiances and rivalries within the party.
