  • Minister Nyesom Wike has refuted claims that he called a naval officer a “fool” during a viral confrontation, insisting his words were misinterpreted and pledging full cooperation with investigations.

Minister Nyesom Wike has denied calling a naval officer a “fool” during a widely circulated video of a tense on-site exchange, stressing that his remarks were taken out of context. He affirmed his respect for the military and emphasised that officers must act within legal boundaries during civilian operations.

The video, which quickly went viral on social media, shows Wike confronting a naval officer over operational issues at a project site. The clip sparked widespread public debate, with many calling for an official investigation into the incident.

The Nigerian Navy has confirmed that a formal inquiry will be conducted, advising both parties to await its outcome. Senior military officials have urged calm, noting that tensions should not be resolved based on viral clips alone.

While some former military leaders have called for a formal apology to the armed forces, Wike has pledged full cooperation with the investigation, asserting that proper procedures will clarify the matter and maintain respect between civil authorities and the military.
