Popular Nigerian media personality and fashion icon Toke Makinwa has triggered widespread debate after a video surfaced of her advising mothers not to bathe their newborns every day.
In a clip posted on her official Snapchat story, Toke explained that daily bathing can cause skin problems for babies, especially those between 0–3 months. She emphasized that newborns are not exposed to dirt, sweat, or outdoor environments that warrant frequent bathing.
According to Toke, babies in their first few months have extremely delicate skin that needs to “breathe.” She said that instead of bathing them daily, parents should simply wipe them gently with clean water.

Toke also revealed her own bathing routine for Yaya:
- 0–1 month: Bathed once a week, with daily wiping
- 2 months: Bathed twice a week, daily wiping continued
- 3 months: Bathed 3–4 times a week
- 4–6 months: Skin becomes stronger, making daily baths possible
The media star stressed that newborns are mostly indoors, are not sweating, and are rarely exposed to dirt—making daily bathing unnecessary.
