Despite a tough debut season that saw Manchester United finish 15th, Ruben Amorim says he’s committed to a long-term rebuild at Old Trafford, even expressing hopes of creating a Ferguson-level legacy over the next 20 years.
Despite a dismal first campaign in charge, Ruben Amorim says he’s committed to building a long-term legacy at Manchester United and hopes to stay at the club for “20 years” or more.
After losing 14 of 27 Premier League matches and finishing a disappointing 15th—Manchester United’s worst top-flight finish in decades—Amorim remains optimistic about his future at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese manager, who was appointed amid high expectations, thanked the club’s leadership for backing him through a turbulent start. He expressed confidence that, with time, support, and a little luck, he can lead United back to the summit of English football.

“Yeah, I want to stay. I want to stay 20 (years). That is my goal, and I truly believe in that. Always do. Something will happen. In some moments, I will be lucky. I had a lot of luck during my career as a manager, and my idea is to stay for many years,” he said.

“But again, we know that the results will dictate that. I know that last season I used up all the credits, but I’m ready to start fresh. I want to be the manager of Manchester United for a while. And I took five years to choose this club, so I don’t want to fail.”

Amorim also praised Manchester United’s new leadership structure, crediting Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada for their trust in him, and expressed faith in INEOS’ long-term vision for the club.
With a renewed plan, increased transfer activity, and a fresh preseason at Carrington underway, Amorim is determined to reshape United’s identity and competitiveness. Early results in the coming season will be key in demonstrating that his project has real potential.
