- The ICPC has announced plans to arraign former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai in court over multiple corruption-related charges following weeks of detention and mounting public pressure.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has disclosed that it will arraign former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, before the Federal High Court in Kaduna on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, over alleged corruption-related offences.
According to a statement issued by the Commission’s Head of Media and Public Communications, John Odey, El-Rufai will be arraigned alongside one Joel Adoga in suit number FHC/KD/73/2026.
The charges filed against them include conversion and possession of public property as well as money laundering. The ICPC noted that the case forms part of its ongoing efforts to enforce accountability and uphold the rule of law.
The planned arraignment comes amid growing pressure from stakeholders, including the African Democratic Congress and the Muslim Rights Concern, who had criticised the former governor’s prolonged detention without formal charges. Members of El-Rufai’s family had also raised concerns, calling for his immediate arraignment in a competent court.

In addition, the ICPC revealed that a separate charge, marked KDH/KAD/ICPC/01/26, has been filed against El-Rufai and another associate, Amadu Sule, before a Kaduna State High Court. The charges in that case include abuse of office, fraud, intent to commit fraud, and conferring undue advantage.
The Commission confirmed that El-Rufai has been duly served and reiterated its commitment to due process. The former governor has remained in ICPC custody since February after being re-arrested shortly after securing bail from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, further intensifying calls for his day in court.
