The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has commended authorities in the State of Georgia, United States, after its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, was awarded an Honorary Citizen of Georgia recognition.
In a letter dated February 24, 2026, IPOB expressed gratitude to Gabe Okoye for his role in facilitating the honour, describing it as a significant gesture acknowledging Kanu’s contributions to public discourse, cultural engagement, humanitarian advocacy, and global awareness.
The group noted that the honorary citizenship designation symbolises goodwill and recognition by the State of Georgia, portraying Kanu as a distinguished guest and friend of the state.

It referenced global figures such as Winston Churchill and Mother Teresa among past recipients, describing Kanu’s inclusion as significant.
The group also extended appreciation to the Georgia Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger, the state governor, and the people of Georgia for what it called a meaningful and symbolic honour.
The statement was signed by IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, on behalf of the organisation and its members worldwide.
