The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) report states that 2,360 children have died in Israel’s counterattacks in the Gaza Strip following Hamas’ October 7 attacks on southern Israel.
VerseNews reports that according to UNICEF these attacks “relentless” and reported that 5,364 children have been injured.
“The situation in the Gaza Strip is a growing stain on our collective conscience. The rate of death and injuries of children simply staggering,” said Adele Khodr, UNICEF regional director for the Middle East and North Africa.
“Even more frightening is the fact that unless tensions are eased, and unless humanitarian aid is allowed, including food, water, medical supplies and fuel, the daily death toll will continue to rise.”
“The killing and maiming of children, abduction of children, attacks on hospitals and schools, and the denial of humanitarian access constitute grave violations of children’s rights,” Khodr added.
The Gaza Strip is facing severe water shortages, with around 50% of the population being children.
UNICEF has called for a ceasefire, humanitarian access, and the release of all hostages in the region.
