The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has announced that the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in 2024 will be free of charge for individuals with disabilities who wish to register.
VerseNews reports that Prof Ishaq Oloyede, the Registrar of JAMB, shared this information during a media interactive session to kickstart the registration process for the 2024 UTME.
As part of its support for persons with disabilities, JAMB will issue free application documents to all categories of individuals with disabilities.
“To support the PLWD, JAMB will issue free application documents to all categories of Persons Living with Disabilities in the advertisement for the 2024 UTME/DE,” he said.
Oloyede mentioned that the idea of providing audio books was suggested during the first National Conference on Equal Opportunity of Access to Higher Education in Nigeria.
These audio books will be a digital adaptation of traditional reading materials, available in popular audio formats such as MP3, WMV, and WMA, compatible with devices capable of streaming audio records.
This initiative aims to aid blind candidates in understanding the subject matter.
Furthermore, diagrams will be removed from questions for blind candidates taking the 2024 UTME.
Additionally, an e-copy of the reading text will be provided free of charge for all categories of candidates.
Registration for the 2024 UTME is set to commence on January 15, with a registration fee of N6,200 for candidates not taking the mock examination and N7,700 for those participating in the mock.
