While member countries of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) are yet to find lasting solution in resolving the crisis in the Republic of Niger, Algeria has a better solution.

VerseNews had earlier reported that the ECOWAS after threatening the military junta in Niger to restore constitutional government by returning power to ousted President Mohamed Bazoum within seven days which has yielded no result.

The West African bloc chaired by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had proposed a military intervention to the Niger crisis but that proposal was rejected by other African countries.

But Algerian foreign minister, Ahmed Attaf, during his mediation tour to the West African country stated that, “most of the countries we have talked to are against military intervention to end the crisis”.

The military option by the ECOWAS was vehemently rejected by Algeria.

While the junta in Niger headed by Gen Abdourahamane Tchiani are enjoying support from Russia, Algeria noted that a military option would not proper considering the adventure of NATO in Libya in 2011 where their leader, Muammar Gaddafi was forcefully removed.

To this, Attaf disclosed they have had talks with the coupists in Niger and their leader, Tchiani, wants a transitional period of up to three years.

But, Algeria said it would seek a United Nations (UN) conference to restore constitutional order, propose guarantees for all sides in the crisis and host a conference on development in the Sahel region.
