Kogi High Court Summons EFCC Chairman Over Alleged Contempt Of Court Order
Ola Olukoyede and Yahaya Bello

Kogi High Court has summoned EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede to appear on May 13 following allegations of contempt of court brought by former Governor Yahaya Bello.

The court directive stems from a case where Bello accused EFCC of violating a court order issued on February 9, prompting the court to grant Bello’s prayers and order Olukoyede’s appearance to address the alleged contempt charge, emphasizing the importance of hearing both sides.

In a legal development, the Kogi High Court in Lokoja has issued a directive to the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, to appear before the court on May 13.

VerseNews reports that this directive stems from a case brought by former Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi, with the court identifying Case No: HCL/68M/2024 and Motion No: HCL/190M/2024.

Justice I.A. Jamil of High Court IV presided over the case. Bello alleged that the EFCC violated a court order issued on February 9 by engaging in certain actions.

According to Bello’s argument, these actions amounted to a breach of the court’s order and therefore constituted contempt.

After reviewing Bello’s submissions, including relevant exhibits, the court granted his prayers. As a result, the court ordered Olukoyede to appear before it to address the alleged contempt charge.

The court emphasized the importance of allowing both sides to be heard, invoking the legal principle of “Audi Ultra Patem” (listen to the other side).

The court set the date for Olukoyede’s appearance as May 13, providing an opportunity for him to provide a reason for the EFCC’s purported disobedience of the court order.

This development adds a new layer of legal scrutiny to the ongoing proceedings, highlighting the complexities of the case and the legal issues at stake.
