- The Lagos State Police Command has invited Pastor Chris Okafor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries for questioning over allegations of multiple rape and other offences, as investigations commence.

The Lagos State Police Command has invited the Senior Pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Chris Okafor, to report at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, following allegations of multiple rape and other offences capable of causing a breach of public peace.
The police said the cleric has been served with an official invitation letter and is expected to appear before the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the SCID by 10 a.m. on Monday.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer in Lagos State, Abimbola Adebisi, said the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, ordered a thorough and unbiased investigation into the allegations.
“The Lagos State Police Command has invited Pastor Chris Okafor, Senior Pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, in connection with allegations of multiple rape, other sexual offences, and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace and breakdown of law and order in the state,” Adebisi said.
According to the police, the invitation followed several complaints relating to alleged sexual offences and other conduct capable of disrupting public peace.
“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations,” the statement added.
The police confirmed that the pastor was served the invitation through his legal representative and urged him to cooperate fully with investigators at the SCID, Panti.
The command also disclosed that adequate security had been provided for the alleged victims and encouraged anyone with relevant complaints or information to come forward. It assured that the identities of victims and witnesses would be kept confidential and fully protected throughout the investigation.
The police further called on members of the public with credible information or evidence related to the case to assist the investigation through the SCID or the Police Public Relations Department.
Reiterating its commitment to due process, the command stressed that the investigation would be carried out professionally and without bias.
“No individual will be shielded based on status or influence. All allegations will be discreetly investigated according to the law, and justice must prevail,” the statement said.
The invitation follows weeks of controversy surrounding the cleric after multiple allegations surfaced online in mid-December 2025, drawing widespread public attention.

Amid the growing backlash, Okafor reportedly stepped down from his pastoral duties, while the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria was said to be considering possible sanctions.
Earlier, Okafor had publicly apologised to his congregation for past “mistakes” during a New Year’s Day service, without addressing the specific allegations.
