Lagos State issues ultimatum for Landmark Beach Resort demolition amid plans for Lagos-Calabar Highway construction.
The Lagos State government has given a seven-day ultimatum to Landmark Group CEO, Paul Onwuanibe, to evacuate the Landmark Beach resort.
VerseNews reports that this decision aims to pave the way for the construction of the Lagos – Calabar coastal road.
In a press release dated April 4th, 2024, Onwuanibe revealed ongoing discussions with the government to preserve hospitality and tourism businesses along the coastal right of way by rerouting the project to its original path.
“I wish to confirm that we are in active talks with various arms of the federal and state government including the Lagos State Government, the Federal and State Ministries of Tourism, and the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing as well as several interest groups and have received firm assurances that there will be no disruptions to business while we work to agree win-win solutions including rerouting the first 1.5 km out of the 700km stretch of the Road to its original location along the undeveloped Water Corporation Road median,” statement by the CEO partly reads.
Onwuanibe acquired Landmark Beachfront Realty along the Water Corporation Road in 2007, unaware of the original construction plans for the Lagos – Calabar coastal road.
Landmark Beach Resort, attracting approximately 3 million visitors annually, holds significance as a popular destination for both locals and tourists, including many from the diaspora.
