Landmark beach expressed concern about the lack of consultation regarding the Federal Government’s sand-filling operations at Landmark Beach for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal line project.

The accelerated sand filling has caused fear and panic among businesses and stakeholders in the Landmark ecosystem.

The management of Landmark Africa has expressed concern over the Federal Government’s plans to take over the beach for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal line without prior consultation.

VerseNews reports that in a statement released on Thursday, spokesperson Elsie Ogianyo highlighted that the organization had neither been contacted nor involved in discussions regarding the project’s environmental impact assessment on the Landmark ecosystem.

Landmark Africa revealed that the accelerated sand filling of the shoreline has sparked fear among independent businesses, suppliers, employees, and stakeholders connected to the Landmark ecosystem.

The organization emphasized its dismay at the lack of official engagement on the coastal highway alignment.

The statement noted, ““To date, Landmark has never been officially consulted on the coastal highway alignment, nor have we been engaged in discussions regarding the environmental impact assessment of the project on Landmark.

“The accelerated sand filling on the Landmark shoreline has sent widespread panic and fear to the independent businesses, suppliers, employees, investors, financiers, and clients that all conduct business within the Landmark Ecosystem.”

Meanwhile, sand-filling operations have begun at the Landmark Beach Resort, a popular leisure destination in Oniru, Lagos, as part of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project.

The Lagos State Government recently issued a demolition notice for the resort.

A video posted on Landmark Africa’s official X (formerly Twitter) account documented earthmoving equipment depositing sand over large sections of the beach, including areas near the popular Hard Rock Café.

The organization continues to voice its concerns about the lack of consultation and potential impacts of the project on the Landmark Beach Resort and surrounding businesses.
