- The man who went viral after being slapped by his girlfriend during a public proposal has finally shared his side of the story, insisting they were in a relationship despite her public denial.
The man who went viral after being slapped by his girlfriend during a public proposal has finally spoken out, sharing his version of events after the lady publicly denied ever dating him.
A viral video that surfaced online last week showed the woman slapping her supposed boyfriend after he knelt to propose at a wedding. The clip sparked massive reactions on social media, with many criticizing her behavior.
However, shortly after the incident, the lady released her own statement claiming she was never in a relationship with the man. According to her, she had told him before that she couldn’t handle a long-distance relationship — insisting his proposal was uninvited.
In a new twist, the man has countered her claims, alleging that she’s lying to protect her image. He insisted they were dating and had even discussed future plans together.

“She told me to move to Lagos so we could be closer and even suggested I invest in a shop with her. I did everything because I believed we were building a future together. Now she’s saying we were never dating — that’s a lie,” he said.
He further demanded that she return all his investments and personal documents, warning that continued denial could lead to “public drama.”
The viral proposal scandal has divided online opinion. Some sympathized with the man, saying he showed emotional maturity despite public humiliation, while others questioned his decision to propose in such a setting.
