Presidency has revealed that many CBN fund transactions made under Godwin Emefiele were done without Buhari’s signature.

In a recent revelation, the Presidency said many approval processes within the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) during the tenure of former governor, Godwin Emefiele.

According to the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, many approvals for fund released within the CBN did not bear the signature of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

In an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo on Channels Television, Ngelale highlighted the implications of this revelation, suggesting that it points to a lapse in oversight during the previous administration.

Despite President Tinubu’s support for Buhari’s administration, Ngelale emphasized the importance of transparency in disclosing issues detrimental to the economy that occurred under Buhari’s predecessor.

While acknowledging Buhari’s achievements in areas such as infrastructure and ease of doing business, Ngelale underscored the impact of negligence in overseeing CBN affairs on the current state of the economy.

He pointed to instances like the alleged forgery of Buhari’s signature on approvals, including the controversial release of $6.2 million in cash for foreign election observers.

Emefiele, initially appointed by former President Goodluck Jonathan, was retained by Buhari, who renewed his tenure at the apex bank.

Meanwhile, He was removed last June and is standing trial before Justice Muazu on 20-count amended charges bordering on corrupt advantages, conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, forgery and obtaining by false pretenses to the tune of $6,230,000.

Also, He was accused of illegally obtaining the sum by impersonating Boss Mustapha, a former Secretary General of the Federation.

However, In mid-February, former Secretary General of the Federation (SGF) Mustapha testified before the court, stating that he had no knowledge of the transaction up until his departure from office at the end of May 2023.

He emphasized that during his five years and seven months of service, the document in question did not originate from the office of then-President Buhari.
