The Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele has revealed that the lengthy queues at banking halls and automated teller machines (ATMs) is attributed by some politicians who are hoarding the new naira notes.

According the reports gathered by this Online Newspaper, Emefiele said that some politicians are buying the new notes and storing them for political purposes.

He also revealed that some of the agitations against the naira redesign policy were staged and sponsored by some of these politicians.

“The CBN has also noticed that some politicians are buying the new notes and storing them for political purposes.”

“We believe that a large proportion of these agitations are staged and sponsored propagandas or an exaggeration of the reality,” he said.

However, he assures that the apex Bank is doing everything possible to make the new naira notes available to ease tension created by the situation.

“No doubt that there are pockets of pressures in some areas, the CBN is working hard to shift resources to those areas in order to ease the tension,” he added.
