In response to a reported attack on the State Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigerian troops swiftly intervened, engaging with adherents of the Yoruba Nation armed with dangerous weapons.
VerseNews reports that a statement by the Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, said the agitators for the Yoruba Nation dressed in foreign military camouflage and equipped with berets, arrived in buses and motorbikes and engaged the troops in a shootout.
Utilizing superior firepower, the troops subdued the attackers, causing them to retreat in disarray.
The engagement led to the apprehension of nine members of the irredentist group, while a Semi-Automatic Pump Action rifle and ammunition were recovered from the scene.
Currently, the situation is under control, with troops pursuing the fleeing adherents. The Nigerian Army assures the public that measures are being taken to ensure the safety and security of the area, urging vigilance and the reporting of suspicious activity to security agencies.
