NIMC Launches Self-Service App For NIN Registration
The app, named ‘NIMC Self-service NIN Enrollment and Digital ID,’ allows people to enroll for their NIN from their homes.
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has launched a self-service online platform for National Identification Number (NIN) enrollment and digital identity cards.
VerseNews reports that the app, named ‘NIMC Self-service NIN Enrollment and Digital ID,’ allows people to enroll for their NIN from their homes.
The NIMC Director, Information Technology/Identity Database, Chuks Onyepunuka, introduced the app, emphasizing its convenience.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, noted that this marked the fifth commemoration of Identity Day, the first under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Identity Day aims to highlight the importance of verifiable identity in the modern digital age and its role in various aspects of life, including financial services and social media engagement.
The minister stressed the significance of identity in crime control and national development, highlighting the NIMC’s database with over 100 million National Identification Numbers.
On the reason for the self-service solution platform, the Commission’s Acting Director General/CEO, Abisoye Coker-Odusote said “We are trying to increase the turn-around time of registration. I have heard a lot of complaints from the average Nigerians about going for a registration. It takes them a long time and it also takes them a long time to get feedback after registration has been completed.
“So, what are trying to do is to create an ease of access for you to be able to register from the comfort of your own house. If you don’t have access to a digital tool, you can approach the NIMC office or any of our front-end partners that are in your neighbourhood.”
VerseNews gathered that the NIMC self-service enrolment system will be powered by Banksforte Technology Limited, a subsidiary of Banksforte Group, which offers services in project management, construction engineering, ICT, and other areas.
On when it will be available for download, the Chief Executive Officer, Barnksforte Technology Limited, Mr Dayo Bankole, said “that will be determined by the NIMC. But I am sure it will be out as soon as possible.”
