The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has convened an emergency meeting at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
The meeting, which is currently being held behind closed doors, comes in response to a wave of high-profile defections and deepening internal unrest within the party.
Just last week, former vice presidential candidate Ifeanyi Okowa and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Their exit dealt a major blow to the PDP, as the party’s entire political structure in Delta State collapsed in the process.
Following a closed-door meeting in Asaba, Delta’s Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme, all state commissioners, local government chairmen, and grassroots party members also moved en masse to the APC, significantly weakening the PDP’s foothold in the South-South region.
The emergency meeting is expected to address the crisis and strategize on the party’s next steps.
