Peter Obi planning to dump Labour Party (LP), unite with El-Rufai in SDP to challenge Tinubu in the 2027 election.

Daniel Bwala. thef ormer spokesperson for the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Organisation has said the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 Presidential Election, Peter Obi, is planning to leave the Labour Party and join a former Kaduna Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

VerseNews reports that Bwala, who made the allegation in a post on his X handle on Friday.

He explained that Obi plan to leave his present party is due to the current crisis in the party with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) threatening to take over the party.

Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State in the Southeast region, joined the LP in May 2023 in the buildup to the 2023 general elections following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Bwala, a member of the PDP who has declared support for President Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), wrote on his X handle, “Peter Obi @PeterObi allegedly planning to unite with El-rufai @elrufai in Social Democratic Party as Nigerian Labour Congress set to take ownership and custody of their political party, the @NgLabour.

“Recall that there was a judgment of court that states that Nigeria Labour Congress owns Labour Party. NLC is now prepared to take custody of that party.

“Twist and turns in the coming days. But all that will not give sleepless night to @officialABAT who himself has his magic wands to wield.”

This Online News platform learnt that El-Rufai was spotted at the national secretariat of the Social Democratic Party in Abuja on Wednesday.

The APC chieftain was seen in a viral video on social media paying a consultation visit to the national chairman of the SDP, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam.

However, during the meeting, someone was heard cautioning those taking photographs against leaking the pictures of the visit on social media, but El-Rufai said, ‘I don’t care’.

SaharaReporters had reported how the Nigerian Senate failed to confirm the nomination of El-Rufai as a minister of the country last August.

After the seven-day of screening of the 49 ministerial nominees sent to it for screening by President Bola Tinubu, the Senate did not also confirm the appointment of the former Deputy Governor of Taraba State and a ministerial nominee from the state, Senator Abubakar Danladi.

Also not confirmed by the Upper Chamber was one of the ministerial nominees from Delta State, Stella Okotete.

According to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the Senate did not clear the three because of security reports that must be cleared.
