President Bola Tinubu has given the green light for the establishment of the National Health Fellows Programme, aimed at deploying young Nigerian fellows to all 774 local government areas nationwide.
VerseNews reports that the initiative, announced by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, underscores Tinubu’s commitment to upgrading primary healthcare centers and constructing over 8,800 new facilities across the country.
The programme, to be administered by the Sector Wide Approach (SWAp) Co-ordination Office under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, will recruit, remunerate, and equip fellows with tools to monitor the performance of Basic Health Care Provision Fund-supported facilities nationwide.
President Tinubu, also the African Union Champion for Human Resources in Healthcare, expresses confidence in the capacity of young Nigerians to drive impactful health reforms, expecting their daily monitoring and tracking efforts to elevate healthcare service delivery to international standards.
