Primate Ayodele Slams Tinubu Over Clemency for Convicts, Questions Continued Detention of Nnamdi Kanu

- Primate Elijah Ayodele has condemned President Bola Tinubu’s decision to pardon convicted criminals, calling it a blow to Nigeria’s anti-crime fight.
The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has faulted President Bola Tinubu for granting clemency to convicted criminals, describing the action as a major setback to Nigeria’s anti-crime efforts.
In a statement released on Tuesday by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Ayodele said pardoning individuals convicted of serious crimes such as drug trafficking, murder, and human trafficking undermines the sacrifices of security operatives and agencies like the NDLEA, who risked their lives to bring offenders to justice.
“Why must he pardon criminals, cocaine pushers? It’s like wasting the efforts of security operatives who arrested them. These criminals will continue to cause problems in society; you can’t separate them from crime,” the cleric said.

Ayodele also questioned the government’s continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), while granting freedom to convicted offenders.
“Now, since he released these people, why then is Nnamdi Kanu still in detention after several years? If those convicted of crimes as severe as murder and drug trafficking can be pardoned, then Nnamdi Kanu should also be released,” he stated.

He further urged President Tinubu to dismiss his current advisers on security and the economy, accusing them of poor counsel and lack of sincerity.
“Tinubu should do away with bad advisers, both on the economy and security. They are disappointing and don’t mean well for him. He needs to be very proactive,” Ayodele warned.
