Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has stated that Nigeria has sufficient resources to provide free education at all levels for its citizens.

Falana made this statement during a public program organized by the Revolutionary Socialist Movement and the Save Public Education Campaign in Abuja.

The event discussed the topic of Nigeria’s future under the government of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly focusing on the crisis in public education.

He emphasized that free education and other social amenities are achievable through democratic management and control of resources.

Falana called for monitoring of resources available to Nigerian universities and the equitable distribution of revenue to state and local governments.

He criticized the allocation of billions of naira for National Assembly members for cars, allowances, renovations, and constituency projects, pointing out that such expenditures were questionable and contrary to the constitution.

Falana urged students to oppose fee increases in Nigerian universities and fight for their rights.

Bob Agnes, the Federal Capital Territory chairman of the Africa Action Congress, highlighted ongoing police brutality nationwide, expressing concern about arbitrary arrests of innocent youths by police officers equipped with POS machines.

Dammy Owot, the secretary of Workers and Youth Solidarity Network, criticized the new fees regime in universities, which he believed would hinder students from poor and working-class families from accessing education.

Dimeji Macaulay, a socialist and trade union activist, argued that there was no solution to Nigeria’s problems under Tinubu’s leadership, considering Tinubu’s association with the Muhammadu Buhari regime and the escalating crisis in Nigeria.
