A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of Cyril Ndifon, the suspended Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar, in Kuje Correctional Centre.
VerseNews reports that the remand order was given by Justice James Omotosho after Ndifon and one of his lawyers, Sunny Anyanwu, were re-arraigned on an amended four-count charge.
The charges include alleged sexual harassment and an attempt to pervert the course of justice. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is the complainant in the case.
Ndifon is accused of causing a diploma student at UNICAL to send pornographic, indecent, and obscene photographs to him through WhatsApp between May and September 2023.
Anyanwu, the lawyer, is alleged to have threatened a prosecution witness not to honor ICPC’s invitation during the pendency of the charges against Ndifon, intending to pervert the cause of justice.
The offences are said to be in violation of the Cybercrime (Prohibition & Prevention) Act 2015 and Section 182 of the Penal Code Cap. 532 Laws of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, 2006.
Ndifon had previously been granted temporary bail on January 10 for glaucoma surgery.
