The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Abia State Returning Officer, Prof. Nnenna Oti has received a welcome back parade of honor by the students of Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) where she is Vice Chancellor.
VerseNews Nigeria reports that in video circulating online, students and staff were seen dancing and chanting songs with a banner written “WELCOME BACK NNENNA OTI, HEROINE OF NIGERIA DEMOCRACY.”
Addressing the crowds, Oti said “they came with their threats, they came with their money, they came with their intimidation, but I resisted all.”
Oti was celebrated for her outstanding display democracy record and infertility, in announcing Abia gubernatorial election result despite uncertainties and intimidations.
This Online News Media reported that before announcing the election results, she assured that “the peoples mandate must stand.”

“I shall stand squarely and unapologetically on these principles. The people’s votes and mandate shall stand.
“The pastor and the mother in me will not permit me to do anything that will adversely affect the future of our children,” she said.

- Prof Oti declared Alex Otti of the Labour Party (LP) winner, defeating his opponents Okey Ahiwe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Enyinnaya Nwafor of the Young Peoples Party (YPP) with 175, 467 votes.
