Trader’s goods worth millions of naira has been destroyed as fire razed popular Idumota market in Lagos.

An early morning fire on Wednesday destroyed goods worth millions of Naira, razing some shops in the Nnamdi Azikiwe and Docemo sections of the popular Idumota Market on the Lagos island.

VerseNews reports that the fire affected three buildings, including two two-storey structures and one three-storey building in the market known for clothes, bags, and shoes.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and other emergency service providers, who confirmed the incident in a statement on X, said firefighters are already at the scene to salvage the situation.

“The fire stations at Ebute Elefun, Ilupeju, and Alausa have deployed resources to mitigate the situation effectively as firefighting operations are ongoing.

“The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and investigations are ongoing. Casualties have not been confirmed at this time.

“Upon arrival at 07:58 hours, it was discovered that the fire encompasses three buildings, including two 2-storey structures and one three-storey building.

“Currently, firefighting efforts are underway at the scene,” a statement by the Director, LSFRS, Margaret Adeseye said.
