Edo Impeachment Panel disregards Shaibu’s objections, raising suspicion of hidden motives as investigation persists.
The panel’s decision prompts Shaibu’s counsel to withdraw from the proceedings, but the investigation persists as the panel upholds its constitutional duty, calling upon the State House of Assembly to present its case.
The retired Justice S.A. Omonuwa’s seven-man panel, mandated by Edo State Chief Judge Justice Daniel Okungbowa, persists in investigating allegations of gross misconduct against Deputy Governor Comrade Philip Shaibu, despite objections raised by his counsel, Professor Oladoyin Awoyale (SAN).
VerseNews reports that Awoyale cited an Abuja Federal High Court’s order adjourning Shaibu’s case to April 8, 2024, prompting uncertainty over the continuation of the probe.
However, the panel ruled that the court order did not bar their investigation, emphasizing the panel’s constitutional duty.
Awoyale subsequently exited the proceedings, expressing concerns over the panel’s decision.
Nevertheless, the panel remains steadfast in its commitment to conducting a fair investigation and calls upon the State House of Assembly to present its case against Deputy Governor Shaibu.
