The heartbreaking news was shared on Instagram on Saturday by filmmaker Stanley Ontop, who revealed that the beloved actor died on Friday.

“It’s another sad period as we just received news from Tom Njemanze’s family that he has succumbed to his ailment and passed on yesterday. May his soul RIP. It’s well. We tried to save him Buh God knows best. Nollywood lost another legend. Ije Uwa,” Stanley wrote.

Earlier, Stanley had brought public attention to Njemanze’s declining health by posting a heartfelt video on Instagram to solicit financial support for the actor’s medical treatment.
Tom Njemanze rose to stardom in the 1990s, earning a reputation as one of Nollywood’s most distinctive voices and screen presences. His performances in classics like Tokunboh, Pounds and Dollars, Atosa, Issakaba, Osuofia in London, Brain Box, and Igbotic Love endeared him to millions.
