Lamidi Apapa has said the supporters of the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi known as ‘Obidients’ are solidly behind him as the party’s acting National Chairman.

“As of today, I am the acting national chairman of the party,” he said on Channels Televisions Sunday Politics.

When asked if Obi’s supporters are behind him, he said ‘yes’ because they are Nigerians. “I think so. When you say Obidients’ side, are they not Nigerians?”

VerseNews Nigeria reports that the deputy national chairman (south) had last week declared himself as the LP national chairman following a fresh legal battle in the party.

But a later development had it that LP state chairmen in the 36 states of the federation turned against the factional leadership, and shows support to Julius Abure as the party’s leader.

But Apapa speaking on the interview session on Sunday insists that he is the acting national chairman of the party following the court order that Abure and other national officers to stop parading themselves as such

“Now, if that has happened, what else? The next person should take over,” he said,

Apapa also debunked the allegations of being sponsored by the opposition parties with the agenda of bringing confusion into LP.

“That is not true. Nobody is sponsoring me, for anybody to now say I want to run down the party, that is a lie,” he added.

The LP Chieftain further argued that anyone who criticizes his action of piloting the party’s affairs is acting out of ignorance.

“Let me tell you if they know what transpired, they will know they are acting out of ignorance,” he said.
