The indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced the permanent cancellation of the Monday sit-at-home observed across the South-East, stating that the directive comes directly from its detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

In a press statement dated February 8, 2026, and signed by IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the group said the order takes effect from Monday, February 9, 2026. According to the statement, Kanu directed that all schools, markets, offices, transport services, and other economic activities should resume fully every Monday.

IPOB explained that the decision was taken to ensure that children return to school and that residents are able to conduct their lawful businesses without fear or intimidation. The group stressed that there is no longer any justification for observing sit-at-home on Mondays.

The statement warned that any individual or group attempting to enforce sit-at-home going forward would be acting against Kanu’s explicit instruction and would be treated as working against the interests of the people and the Biafran cause.

IPOB also cautioned against what it described as possible “false-flag operations” aimed at creating fear or forcing residents to stay indoors, urging the public to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding.

In addition, the group stated that no state governor has the right to threaten traders or shut down markets over decisions to stay at home, warning against intimidation, forced closures, or demolitions. IPOB added that any market renovation or reconstruction must involve consultation with stakeholders and the provision of adequate temporary trading spaces.
