The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has confirmed that he has completed his Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination form, despite the ongoing legal battle over the party’s status.

Obi made the announcement in a statement shared on his verified X account on Tuesday, shortly after the party’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, disclosed that Obi’s name had been successfully uploaded to INEC’s nomination portal.

Reacting to the nomination process, Obi questioned whether Nigeria’s political leadership is paying adequate attention to the country’s most pressing challenges.

According to him, “widespread insecurity, mass hunger, and the frivolous siphoning of billions through non-existent agencies” should be treated as national emergencies instead of being overshadowed by political activities.

Obi also called on INEC to make the academic credentials of all political aspirants publicly available, noting that the nomination form already requires candidates to declare whether they have ever submitted forged certificates.

“Transparency strengthens democracy and builds public trust.”

He maintained that making candidates’ credentials public would strengthen confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process.

According to Obi, “Nigeria’s problems are too serious for politics as usual. It is time for leadership defined by competence, character, capacity, compassion, and commitment to service.”
