- The PDP and APC have begun uploading the names of their governorship and State Houses of Assembly candidates to the INEC portal ahead of the August 8 deadline for the 2027 general elections.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have commenced uploading the names of their governorship and State Houses of Assembly candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the INEC timetable, political parties have from July 18 to August 8, 2026, to submit the nomination forms of governorship and state assembly candidates through the commission’s online portal.
PDP National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, confirmed that the party began the upload process on Saturday, expressing confidence that it would be completed well before the deadline.
Similarly, a senior APC official disclosed that the ruling party had also started uploading its candidates, prioritising the 16 incumbent governors seeking re-election. The official added that only candidates cleared by the party’s primary election appeal committee and approved by the National Working Committee (NWC) would be submitted.
The APC also constituted a committee to coordinate the verification and transmission of candidate documents before they are uploaded to the INEC portal.
In total, political parties are expected to submit 28 governorship candidates and 993 State Houses of Assembly candidates nationwide, with eight states excluded from the governorship race due to their off-cycle election schedules.
