Nine months after his abduction, Barrister Ahmed Mohammed, a Permanent Commissioner of the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC), remains in captivity despite his family reportedly paying ₦40 million in ransom.

Barr. Ahmed was kidnapped by bandits on September 29, 2025, along the Mokwa–Ibbi Road in Borgu Local Government Area while travelling to Minna on an official assignment, just weeks before the state’s local government elections.

According to a family member, the abductors have now demanded an additional ₦300 million for his release. The source said the bandits contacted the family again on Monday to ask if they were ready to meet the new demand, but the family said it could not raise the money.

“They call almost every day… We are appealing to the Niger State Government to come to our aid and secure his release. He was kidnapped while on an official engagement of the Niger State Government,” the family member said.

A close friend of the victim, Ayuba Abubakar, also appealed for urgent government intervention, revealing that the family has exhausted all available efforts to secure his freedom.
