• Governor Alex Otti has commissioned the reconstructed Ovom Road and flagged off the Enyimba-Radisson Hotel in Aba, signaling a major boost for infrastructure and economic growth in Abia State.

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has commissioned the reconstructed Ovom Road in Aba while also flagging off the construction of the Enyimba-Radisson Hotel, marking a major step in the state’s infrastructure and economic development drive.

The newly reconstructed Ovom Road, once severely affected by gully erosion, has now been reclaimed, saving residents from a life-threatening environmental hazard that had plagued the area for years.

Speaking during the event, Otti described the transformation of Ovom as a shift from despair to progress, noting that a massive 42-metre gully stretching over 600 metres was successfully filled within two years.

According to him, the use of rigid pavement technology and proper control measures has not only addressed the immediate danger but also prevented a recurrence of such environmental disasters.

The governor also performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the Enyimba Hotel project, now rebranded as the Enyimba-Radisson Hotel, in partnership with global hospitality brand Radisson Blu.

He revealed that the project would deliver a 120-room five-star hotel within 12 months, alongside a world-class convention centre designed to host business and public sector events.

Otti further projected that the facility could expand to 250 rooms within four years, positioning Aba as a major commercial and hospitality hub in West Africa.

The governor acknowledged the contributions of past leaders, including Ajie Ukpabi Anthony Asika and Sam Mbakwe, as well as members of the Aba business community who sustained the Enyimba Hotel vision over the decades.

In his remarks, the Director-General of the Greater Aba Development Authority, Architect Uche Ukeje, recalled Otti’s 2024 visit to the erosion site and his promise to restore the area, expressing confidence in Aba’s potential as a global destination.

Also speaking, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe praised the governor’s leadership, describing the projects as evidence of transformative governance and commitment to improving residents’ quality of life.

Representing Radisson Blu, Senior Director for Development in Africa, Erwan Garnier, said the project signals Abia State’s readiness for global partnerships and assured that the hotel would meet international standards.

The contractor, Chief Ifeanyi Okorie, highlighted the previously dangerous condition of Ovom Road and commended the government for intervening to restore safety and infrastructure.

Other stakeholders, including local government officials and business leaders, expressed support for the administration’s development agenda, while a minute silence was observed in honour of pioneers of the Enyimba Hotel project.

The event was attended by members of the Aba business community, traditional rulers, residents, and top government officials.
