Jose Peseiro, manager of the Super Eagles, has commented that Nigeria’s 1-1 tie against Lesotho’s Crocodiles was as a result of bad luck.

Football buffs from Nigeria were enraged following the team’s unimpressive tie at the Godswil Akpabio stadium in the opener of the 2026 African preliminaries for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Semi Ajayi, West Brom’s defensive player, tied the game with a corner kick after Motlomelo Mkhwanazi gave Lesotho the lead in the 56th minute.

Peseiro attributed the draw to bad luck when addressing the media after the game.

His words: “I am sad, of course, disappointed by the result, but my team tried to do the maximum.”

“We had 76% of the ball possession against 24%; the opponents only had two chances to score and scored a goal.

“We had many chances to score. It was bad luck.”

Ifeanyi Udeze, a former Super Eagle defender, expressed his anger at the ‘unacceptable’ result.

“This was our first World Cup qualifier in front of the home fans, and we couldn’t beat Lesotho.

“This was a match not against Cameroon, the Ivory Coast, or Ghana. This was a loss.”

On Friday, former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh expressed his views on X, calling the game a ‘national embarrassment.’

His words: “Haba This nightmare go ever end? Woke up to this shocker this morning. Our homebased suppose dey beat Lesotho na! dem even first us score!!!! The painful part be say, no consequences for these national embarrassments sef!”

On Sunday, Nigeria will compete in their second qualifying match against Zimbabwe. Unfortunately, the Super Eagles have not been successful in their attempt to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
