Nse Essien, a board member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), acknowledges the calls for the removal of Super Eagles Head Coach Jose Peseiro due to recent disappointing performances.

Essien highlights the financial constraints faced by the NFF, stating that the federation cannot afford to pay Peseiro’s compensatory fees if he is relieved of his duties.

Despite public dissatisfaction and expectations, Essien emphasizes that the decision to hire Peseiro was made by the Sports Ministry, and the NFF is bound by the coach’s contract.

He said: “The Sports Ministry who employed him were supposed to pay for their salaries. But up till now, nothing has been paid.

“If we sack the coaches now, who will pay compensation?

“Not a dime has been paid yet to this coach who earns about $70,000 a month.

“We have to respect Jose Peseiro’s contract.

“If we had the money to give to him (pay him off) we are going to relieve him. We are not happy.”

Peseiro, whose contract was renegotiated to $50,000 per month from $70,000, has reportedly not received his salary, and financial constraints prevent the NFF from paying him off.

The board member expresses disappointment with the situation, stating that if they had the funds, they would consider relieving Peseiro of his coaching duties.
