The Ogun State Police Command has said it will arrest and prosecute a female TikTok user, identified as Mirabel, following her alleged admission that a rape claim she previously made was false.

Mirabel reportedly made the confession during a viral phone conversation with social media personality, VeryDarkMan, popularly known as VDM.

An audio recording of the exchange, shared online by VDM, captured Mirabel admitting that parts of her earlier account were untrue. In the recording, she was heard pleading for help and apologising after being confronted with messages she had initially attributed to her alleged attacker.

“Yes, sir, please help me, I am very sorry,” she said.

During the conversation, she also reportedly admitted to creating a threatening TikTok account herself to strengthen her claims. She further attributed her actions to being under the influence of drugs at the time.

“I have been taking drugs, and I was not thinking clearly when I posted the videos,” she added.

A police source disclosed that officers, including a Divisional Police Officer, had visited the hospital where Mirabel was receiving treatment. According to the source, she will be taken into custody upon discharge and charged to court.

“The DPO and some senior police officers are currently at the hospital where she is admitted. Once she is discharged, she will be taken into custody, and a charge will be prepared against her for trial. The essence is to serve as a deterrent to others,” the source said.

Mirabel had earlier alleged on TikTok that she was attacked and raped by a stranger who forced his way into her apartment in the Ogijo area of Ogun State. The claim triggered widespread outrage, with many social media users calling for justice and stronger action against sexual violence.

In an earlier statement, the police spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the Commissioner of Police directed the Divisional Police Officer of the Ibafo Division to promptly respond after the report surfaced.

According to the police, Mirabel initially reported the case at the Ibafo Police Station before being taken for medical assessment and later transferred to the Ogijo Police Station for further investigation.

Due to her condition at the time, she was referred for extended medical care to aid both her recovery and the ongoing investigation.

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency had earlier confirmed contact with a close associate of the woman but clarified that the incident occurred in Ogun State and was outside its jurisdiction, adding that relevant information had been passed to the appropriate authorities.

As of Thursday, the police said investigations were ongoing and an official update would be issued in due course.
