The US has warned Nigerian travelers that overstaying their visas could result in a permanent ban from re-entering the country.

Officials emphasized that consular officers have full access to immigration history, making it impossible to evade penalties.

The United States government has issued a strong warning to Nigerian travelers about the severe consequences of overstaying their visas, stating that violators could face a permanent ban from re-entering the country.

VerseNews reports that the US Mission in Nigeria shared the warning on its official X account on Monday, emphasizing that consular officers have full access to immigration records, making it nearly impossible to evade penalties for past violations.

“If you overstay your US visa, you could face a permanent ban on traveling to the United States. Consular officers have full access to your immigration history and will know about past violations. There is no such thing as an ‘honest mistake’ – it is your responsibility to use your visa correctly,” the statement read.

The US authorities reiterated that visa holders are solely responsible for complying with the terms of their stay, and ignorance of visa regulations will not be considered an excuse.
