  • Nigerian singer Yemi Alade has finally addressed why she has never collaborated with Tiwa Savage, saying she prefers to “stay clear” to avoid fan wars and unnecessary drama.

Popular Nigerian music star Yemi Alade has opened up on why she has never collaborated with fellow Afrobeats queen Tiwa Savage — a question that has long sparked debate among fans.

Speaking in a recent interview with Chude Jideonwo, the “Johnny” hitmaker said she deliberately avoids such collaborations because she doesn’t want “problems” in her life.

“I’ve had collaborations with Waje, Seyi Shay, and other African female singers within and outside Nigeria,” Yemi said. “But Tiwa Savage is a fan favorite, and a collaboration with her can make fans start comparing and creating problems where there is none. I’d rather stay clear — I don’t want problems in my life.”

Her comments have once again reignited online discussions about a possible rivalry between the two Afrobeats powerhouses. However, Yemi clarified that there’s no bad blood — just a desire to avoid unnecessary comparisons that often come with fame.

“I understand her,” a fan named Mandella commented. “It’s better the collaboration never happens, because fans will turn it into a competition of who sang better or who killed it more.”

Another fan, Olalekan, praised Yemi’s humility and independence:

“Yemi Alade looks like someone humble but principled. If she says she doesn’t want to collaborate with someone, then there’s more than meets the eye.”

Some fans, like Bolanle, commended her decision, joking that a collaboration would instantly spark rival fan wars:

“Smart! Next thing, it’ll become Tiwa and Yemi Alade FC. Abeg run o!”

But not everyone agreed. A critic named Majek argued that the explanation was unnecessary:

“There’s literally no problem at all. Saying you don’t want problems only stirs up what wasn’t there in the first place.”

Despite mixed reactions, Yemi Alade’s remarks have once again shown how female artists in Afrobeats continue to navigate fame, rivalry, and fan expectations in Nigeria’s dynamic music industry.
