  • The Federal High Court has announced that its 2025 Christmas vacation will begin on December 19, with court activities scheduled to resume nationwide on January 7, 2026, according to an official statement released in Abuja.

The Federal High Court has confirmed that its annual Christmas vacation will begin on December 19, 2025, according to a statement released in Abuja by the court’s Director of Information, Dr. Catherine Christopher.

She explained that full judicial activities across all divisions will resume on January 7, 2026, as approved by the Chief Judge, Justice John Tsoho.

The announcement, contained in a circular titled “Notice of 2025 Christmas Vacation and Roster for Vacation Judges,” emphasised that the schedule aligns with the provisions of Order 46, Rule 4(c) of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019.

Although the court will be on break, the key judicial divisions in Abuja, Lagos, and Port Harcourt will remain open to the public throughout the holiday period. Only urgent matters—particularly those involving the enforcement of fundamental rights, maritime cases such as the arrest or release of vessels, and issues considered to be of national importance—will be handled during this period.

In Abuja, Justice Emeka Nwite and Justice Musa Liman will preside over vacation matters. The Lagos Division will be overseen by Justice Akintayo Aluko and Justice Isaac Dipeolu, while in Port Harcourt, Justice P. M. Ayua and Justice A. T. Mohammed will be on duty. Justice Folashade Giwa-Ogunbanjo will handle cases for the Enugu Division.

Justice Tsoho extended warm Christmas and New Year wishes to all judges, noting that the holiday period traditionally allows federal ministries, departments, and agencies to scale down operations while maintaining essential services.
