The Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of 3,081 suspects for various criminal offences across the state in 2025, including armed robbery, kidnapping, drug trafficking and thuggery.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, disclosed this on Tuesday during an end-of-year press briefing at the command’s headquarters in Kano, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Bakori highlighted the command’s crime-fighting achievements since he assumed office on March 17, 2025, noting that sustained intelligence-led operations had significantly improved public safety in the state.

He revealed that police operatives recovered several firearms during the period, including AK-47 rifles, pistols and locally fabricated guns, alongside ammunition, illicit drugs, stolen vehicles, motorcycles, tricycles and mobile phones.

A breakdown of the arrests showed that 146 suspects were apprehended for armed robbery, 50 for kidnapping, 112 for drug-related offences, while over 2,300 suspected thugs were taken into custody. The police also successfully rescued 14 kidnap victims during various operations.

Bakori added that the launch of Operation Kukan Kura played a critical role in curbing criminal activities and restoring relative peace and security across Kano State.

He urged residents to continue supporting the police by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities, assuring them of the command’s resolve to protect lives and property.

“We are unwaveringly committed to maintaining peace and security in the state,” Bakori said.
