The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has released its New Year message, reaffirming its commitment to the agitation for the creation of Biafra and expressing optimism about the future of the movement.

In a statement signed by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, the group urged its members and supporters at home and in the diaspora to enter the new year with hope, courage and faith, stressing that the struggle demands sacrifice and perseverance.

IPOB restated its demand for what it described as the “restoration of Biafra,” noting that its members remain resolute despite the trials, suffering and pain associated with the agitation.

The group also praised its detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, describing him as a symbol of leadership and sacrifice. It alleged that efforts had been made to suppress the movement through misinformation and what it termed the misuse of legal instruments, but insisted that such actions would not deter its resolve.

In the statement, IPOB criticised Nigeria’s state structure, claiming it restricts human potential and fuels conflict among ethnic nationalities. The group maintained that its agitation is not rooted in hatred, but in a quest for justice, dignity and freedom.

IPOB further expressed appreciation to individuals from other ethnic groups who have publicly shown support for Nnamdi Kanu, saying such gestures showed that “conscience still exists” across ethnic and regional lines.

According to the group, its agitation extends beyond the South-East, forming part of what it described as a broader struggle for freedom across Africa. It urged members to remain united, peaceful and prayerful throughout the new year.

The statement concluded with New Year greetings to Biafrans and prayers for strength, healing and resilience for those affected by the agitation.

As of the time of filing this report, there had been no official response from the Federal Government or security agencies.
