- Belgium celebrated their emphatic World Cup victory over the United States by performing Donald Trump’s trademark dance, days after the US President was linked to the controversial reversal of Folarin Balogun’s suspension.

Belgium added insult to injury after knocking the United States out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, celebrating their 4-1 victory with President Donald Trump’s signature dance following Monday’s Round of 16 clash.
The Red Devils sealed an impressive win to book their place in the quarter-finals, with Romelu Lukaku’s late goal putting the finishing touches on a dominant display. Moments after the striker found the net, the Belgian players gathered together and performed the dance made famous by Trump at his political rallies, a celebration that quickly went viral across social media.
The gesture came amid controversy surrounding US forward Folarin Balogun, whose eligibility for the match had sparked widespread debate.
Balogun was initially suspended after receiving a red card in the previous round, but FIFA overturned the ban on the eve of the match following a review of the incident.
The decision drew criticism after reports claimed President Trump had personally contacted FIFA President Gianni Infantino to request that Balogun’s suspension be reviewed, prompting allegations of political interference in football.
Belgium’s football federation publicly questioned FIFA’s handling of the case, saying it was “astonished” by the decision and revealing that it had formally challenged Balogun’s eligibility before kick-off.
Belgium manager Rudi Garcia also took a swipe at the governing body, joking that FIFA had confused July 5 with April Fools’ Day.
“I didn’t know that July 5 was equal to April 1 at FIFA,” Garcia quipped before the match.
Despite the pre-match controversy, Belgium produced one of their best performances of the tournament, with Charles De Ketelaere scoring twice, while Hans Vanaken and Romelu Lukaku also got on the scoresheet. Malik Tillman briefly levelled for the United States, but Belgium quickly regained control and comfortably secured a place in the last eight.
The victory sets up a mouthwatering quarter-final clash against Spain as Belgium continue their quest for a first FIFA World Cup title.
