The South Americans thought they had fallen further behind in the 58th minute when Ziko found the net on the counterattack, but the goal was ruled out by VAR following a foul on Lisandro Martinez in the build-up.

Egypt eventually doubled their lead in the 67th minute as Ziko struck again after another rapid counterattack, leaving Argentina staring at a shock exit.

Moments earlier, Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni had introduced Lautaro Martinez in place of Rodrigo De Paul, a substitution that would prove decisive.

Argentina responded in the 79th minute when Messi delivered a pinpoint cross for Cristian Romero, who powered a header past Shobeir to reduce the deficit to 2-1.

In the 92nd minute, Julian Alvarez released Lautaro Martinez on a swift attack. The Inter Milan striker surged forward before delivering a perfectly weighted cross for Enzo Fernandez, who headed home the winning goal to spark wild celebrations among the Argentine players and supporters.
