Argentina had the perfect opportunity to equalise six minutes later after Nicolas Tagliafico was brought down inside the penalty area. However, Lionel Messi failed to convert from the spot as Egyptian goalkeeper Mohamed El Shobeir produced a brilliant save.

Shobeir continued his outstanding performance before halftime, denying Alexis Mac Allister and Julian Alvarez with two impressive saves to preserve Egypt’s 1-0 lead at the break.

The South Americans thought they had fallen further behind in the 58th minute when Ziko found the net on the counterattack, but the goal was ruled out by VAR following a foul on Lisandro Martinez in the build-up.

Egypt eventually doubled their lead in the 67th minute as Ziko struck again after another rapid counterattack, leaving Argentina staring at a shock exit.

Moments earlier, Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni had introduced Lautaro Martinez in place of Rodrigo De Paul, a substitution that would prove decisive.

Argentina responded in the 79th minute when Messi delivered a pinpoint cross for Cristian Romero, who powered a header past Shobeir to reduce the deficit to 2-1.

Lautaro Martinez immediately injected life into Argentina’s attack, creating chances and keeping Egypt’s defence under constant pressure.

The equaliser arrived in the 83rd minute after Lautaro cleverly redirected Messi’s cross into a dangerous area. Although Julian Alvarez failed to control the ball, Messi reacted quickest to fire home and level the score at 2-2.

With extra time looming, Argentina completed the comeback in dramatic fashion during stoppage time.

In the 92nd minute, Julian Alvarez released Lautaro Martinez on a swift attack. The Inter Milan striker surged forward before delivering a perfectly weighted cross for Enzo Fernandez, who headed home the winning goal to spark wild celebrations among the Argentine players and supporters.
