FG Clears 60,000 Backlog Of Passports In 4 Days – Minister

The Minister of Interior, Honourable Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has confirmed that approximately 59,906 passport backlogs had been cleared as of the announcement, marking significant progress in resolving the passport crisis.

VerseNews reports that this development follows a directive issued to the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) to clear a backlog of over 60,000 passport applications within four working days.

This directive came after a previous order to clear around 200,000 passport backlogs within two weeks.

The announcement was made in Abuja during a courtesy call by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, VerseNews reports.

Dr. Betta Edu expressed the need for partnership to combat human trafficking, improve veterans’ welfare, address underemployment, and reduce poverty.

Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo welcomed the partnership and noted that it aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed HopeAgenda Agenda.

The Minister also expressed readiness to collaborate further on humanitarian efforts, including the welfare of inmates in correctional facilities.
