- Stephen Miller will replace Susie Wiles as White House chief of staff, with President Donald Trump elevating a longtime ally following Republican losses in the midterm elections.

United States President Donald Trump has named Stephen Miller as his next White House chief of staff, replacing Susie Wiles in a major change to his senior leadership team.
The appointment was announced on Friday, November 6. Miller, who has served as deputy chief of staff, is scheduled to assume his new position on Monday, November 9.
Trump described Miller as one of his most trusted advisers and said Wiles would move to his political operation.
The White House confirmed Miller’s appointment as the 33rd person to hold the position, highlighting his longstanding relationship with the president.
Senior administration officials, including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, welcomed the appointment while praising Wiles’s service.
Miller has been closely associated with Trump’s immigration agenda and has played a prominent role in shaping domestic policy. His relationship with Trump dates back to the president’s 2016 campaign, which he joined as a speechwriter.
His promotion follows Republican losses in the midterm elections and comes as the administration prepares to deal with a Democratic-controlled Congress.
Wiles, who helped lead Trump’s successful 2024 campaign, said serving as chief of staff had been an honour.
The transition places Miller in charge of coordinating White House staff and supporting the president’s priorities at a time when congressional scrutiny of the administration is expected to intensify.
