Donald Trump Wins 2024 New Hampshire Primary, Haley Vows To Continue Fight
Trump’s New Hampshire win follows his landslide victory last week in Iowa…
Donald Trump defeated Nikki Haley on Tuesday in the New Hampshire primary, his second consecutive victory in his bid to secure his party’s presidential nomination.
Trump had just over 53 per cent of the votes counted at 9:30pm Eastern Standard Time, while Haley held just under 46 per cent. With votes still to be counted the exact margin of his victory will only be known later in the evening.
Trump’s New Hampshire win follows his landslide victory last week in Iowa, where the former president won more than 50 per cent of the vote. Trump is the first non-incumbent in the modern era to win both Republican presidential contests in Iowa and New Hampshire.
But a large turnout by independent voters helped boost the former South Carolina governor, who said Tuesday that she would remain in the race at least through the Super Tuesday primaries on March 5.
“New Hampshire is first in the nation. It is not the last in the nation,” Haley said in a speech to her supporters Tuesday night. “This race is far from over. There are dozens of states left to go, and the next one is my sweet state of South Carolina.”
When it was his turn to speak, Trump spent a good portion of his speech lashing out at Haley for “taking a victory lap” despite her loss in the Granite State.
“This is not your typical victory speech, but let’s not have somebody take a victory when she had a very bad night,” Trump said.
The Associated Press also declared President Biden the winner of the Democratic primary in the state.
