Imo: Police Arrest 3 NDLEA, 2 NSCDC Officers Over Allegedly Harassments, Exhortation

The Imo State Command of the Nigerian Police has arrested three officers from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and two officers from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for allegedly harassing and extorting civilians in the state.

VerseNews reports that the disclosure of these arrests was made by the command’s spokesman, ASP Henry Okoye, during a briefing in Owerri, the capital of Imo state.

VerseNews also gathered that one of the arrested individuals is a 37-year-old police Inspector, although their identity was not disclosed.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the suspects were known for their habit of extorting unsuspecting civilians, with a particular focus on Imo state’s youths.

The suspects were using point-of-sale (POS) machines for their unlawful activities.

The officers were allegedly operating under the banner of “Operation Search and Flush Criminals” in Imo state, exploiting the security situation to engage in harassment and extortion.

Their actions included seizing phones from their victims, causing significant hardship to them.

The PPRO assured the public that the investigation would be expedited, and efforts would be made to bring the suspects to justice.
