Vice President Sen. Kashim Shettima will depart from Abuja to Beijing, China, to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 3rd Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Forum from October 16th to 18th, 2023.
VerseNews learnt that the Forum will host leaders from over 130 countries to discuss “High-quality Belt and Road Cooperation: Together for Common Development and Prosperity.”
Shettima’s primary objectives at the Forum include attracting investors for developmental projects in Nigeria and engaging in bilateral meetings with world leaders to promote Nigeria’s trade and investment relations.
The Belt and Road Initiative, initiated by China’s President Xi Jinping in 2013, aims to enhance cooperation and infrastructure investment in nearly 70 countries across Asia, Africa, and Europe through land and maritime routes.
In 2018, Nigeria signed the Belt and Road cooperation agreement with China, and the initiative is expected to benefit partner-countries in various infrastructure investments.
The Vice President’s delegation to the Forum includes several government ministers and officials, emphasizing the importance of the event.
Afterward, Vice President Shettima will travel to the United States to deliver a keynote address at the African Development Bank (AfDB) and World Food Prize facilitated Norman E. Borlaug International Dialogue, starting on October 24th, 2023.
During this event, he will discuss reforms in Nigeria’s Agrifood sector and explore investment opportunities in Nigeria.
Shettima will engage with various stakeholders, partners, and investors, with numerous meetings and engagements scheduled.
Upon completing his commitments in the U.S., the Vice President will return to Nigeria.
