The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has pardoned Descushiel (real name Mercy Isoyip), an actress, rapper, and singer, who erred in reciting the national anthem.

VerseNews reported that a conference and retreat for senior police officers in Owerri, Imo state last week, Descushiel, wearing a police uniform, erred in the recitation of the national anthem.

The National Police Force (NPF) has declared that Descushiel has been granted amnesty in an announcement made through X (formerly Twitter).

“To Err is Human,” the police wrote.

“NPF Pardons Mercy Isoyip aka Descushiel after Actress Muddled up National Anthem Lyrics. Pledges Continual Support for Youthful Crafts.”

Her rendition of the national anthem at the public event shocked Governor Hope Uzodinma and many other guests present, and the video quickly spread on social media.

In response, Deshcushiel issued an apology on her Instagram page to both the general public and the police institution.

On Monday, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) reiterated its promise to support and nurture budding talents.

Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, suggested at an event that stage fright may have been a contributing factor in Descushiel’s mistake, given the grand audience of dignitaries present.

Moreover, he called for her to be given another chance to recite the national anthem at a public function.
